Communications Guideline
- Purpose: Establish operating guidelines for communications between Fire Departments and Southwest Regional Communications Center.
Procedures for Medical Calls
- Medical calls shall be dispatched on FD Dispatch.
- All communications for medical calls shall remain on FD Dispatch, unless:
- A fireground channel is requested by the on-scene units.
- A fireground channel is assigned by Dispatch.
Procedures for Fire Calls
- Fire calls shall be dispatched on FD Dispatch.
- Dispatch will assign a fireground channel at the time of dispatch.
- FD-OPS 8 shall be the primary fire ground tactical channel for all fires.
- FD OPS 7 and subsequent tactical channels will be used for:
- Other incidents.
- Level II staging.
General Communications
- When calling on the radio, units will use the “hey you, it’s me" format.
- Identify the unit or station being called and then identify their own unit.
- Example: “Dispatch from Q261” or “M262 from Q261”.
