What is evolution?

Evolution is the change of genetic composition or gene pool of a population from generation to generation resulting in the remarkable diversity of life that we have today.

What is the mechanism of evolution?

The mechanism of evolution is the tool that is needed for a species to evolve. It doesn't always result in a new species arising.

What is natural selection?

Natural selection is a process where certain traits or alleles become more or less common in a population due to their influence on reproductive success. It doesn't necessarily mean that the allele is completely gone, as it could be recessive and carried by the population.

What is Lamarckism?

Lamarckism is the idea of evolution by transformation proposed by Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in 1809. However, it is not credited and doesn't work as there is no genetic study to support it. Lamarckism includes the principles of the law of use and disuse and the law of acquired traits.

What is Darwinism?

Darwinism, proposed by Charles Darwin, is the concept of evolution by descent with modification. It suggests that traits are passed down from generation to generation and sometimes undergo changes or modifications over a period of time.

Test your knowledge on the mechanisms of evolution, including natural selection, with this quiz. Learn about the process of genetic composition change over time and how it leads to the remarkable diversity of life on Earth. Explore the concept of species evolution and understand how alleles can be preserved through natural selection.
