- Describe a typical environmental project structure in Alberta.
- Outline project manager responsibilities with examples.
- Define project manager skills and knowledge.
- Project Definition: A project is a temporary endeavor creating a unique product, service, or result (PMI 2004).
- Project vs. Operational Work:
- Project: Spill response, risk assessment, air quality monitoring; Duration: Has a start and end date; Deliverables: Unique reports or routine reports.
- Operational Work: Pipeline monitoring, ongoing tasks; Duration: Ongoing; Deliverables: Routine reports.
- Project Management Goal: Deliver project deliverables on schedule and budget, earn profits for the company, and maintain satisfied clients & stakeholders.
- Project Management Cycle (PM Circle): A combination of defining, planning, coordinating, leading, monitoring, and controlling project activities.
- Project Management Questions:
- What is the project intended to achieve?
- What are the deliverables?
- Who has a vested interest in the project?
- What tasks need to be completed to produce the final deliverables?
