Course Information
- Course Title: ENVS 361: Environmental Project Management
- Course Instructor Introduction: Includes instructor's contact information (email or Teams message to set up time).
- Course Location: KA 325/327 (with possibility of switching to another computer lab later).
- Course Schedule: Lectures twice a week for 4 hours, with additional independent study.
- Course Map Review: Students should review the course map and then come back with questions and issues.
Course Objectives
- Learning Outcomes: Students will learn how to plan, manage, execute, and monitor projects, along with the unique aspects of environmental projects. They will be introduced to project management skills, including tasks, responsibilities, scheduling, budgeting, and using Microsoft Project software.
- Project Manager Roles and Responsibilities: Explains who a project manager is and their responsibilities.
- Environmental Project Uniques: Understanding how environmental projects differ from other projects.
- Project Management Skills: Mastering skills like time management and communication are critical to project success.
Course Structure
- Lectures: Two times per week for four hours each.
- Outside of Class Time: Additional study required, estimated about 1-2 hours per week.
- Brightspace: Used as a repository for readings, activities, presentations, assignments and exams.
- Microsoft Teams: Platform for online lectures if a student is unable to attend class in person.
Assessments
- Midterm Exam: 40%, covers Modules 1-5, administered on Jan 27th.
- Assignments: 20%, part 1 and part 2 are completed over time and using the first part's answers for the second part. Due dates will be on Brightspace.
- Final Exam: 40%, Covers all modules and modules topics on Feb, 24.
- Late Policy: Late submissions will lose 10% per day (up to a maximum of 3 days). After three days, students will receive an incomplete or zero mark.
- Required Resources: Personal computer (laptop or tablet) to complete the midterm and final exams.
