    Minimum Staffing Requirements

    • Minimum crew necessary for suppression apparatus to be considered staffed and respond to emergencies is a crew of three (3)
    • Minimum crew for rescue 71 is three (3) personnel
    • Rehab 70 must be staffed with a minimum of an Apparatus Operator or acting Apparatus Operator as the driver

    Filling Open Positions

    • Personnel are responsible for filling the overtime created for the first day of the oncoming shift’s 48-hour tour
    • Apparatus Operator or acting apparatus operator positions must be filled by persons eligible to drive and operate that apparatus
    • The District Chief is responsible for filling any unfilled positions that occur on the 2nd day of the 48-hour tour
    • Volunteer and/or Part-time employees cannot be held over beyond their scheduled timeframe for open positions
    • Volunteer or part time personnel are permitted to fill the position if they are available

    Shift Filling Process

    • The District Chief will notify the personnel that their relief has called off, or there is a vacancy
    • Personnel are responsible for finding relief for the vacancy on the oncoming shift
    • If personnel have reached the maximum hours allowed to consecutively work seventy-two (72) hours, the responsibility for filling the vacancy will roll to the next eligible personnel in the same fire station

    Open positions on the 2nd day of a tour of duty/Mandatory Call Back

    • Full-time personnel who are on their 2nd day of the 4 days off period will be utilized and will be called in

    • Personnel will be permitted to trade their pre-scheduled Mandatory call back days to accommodate PTO or other arranged off time.
    • The only exceptions to the mandatory call back is if the employee is out of town on department business/training, or he or she is on injury/medical leave/FMLA
    • Personnel who are called in to work shall be paid from the time they are contacted until the time in which they are relieved.
    • Failure to respond to the mandatory call back call will result in applicable disciplinary action.
    • Personnel who are called in to work must report in a reasonable time frame based on travel distance.
    • Personnel may work overtime on his or her pre-scheduled call back date at the discretion of the Deputy Chief of Operations, or his/her designee, based on manpower projections for the given date in question.

    Captain and District Chief Positions

    • Captain vacancies will be filled by offering open shifts to available Full-time, and Part-time Captains.
    • District Chief vacancies will be filled by offering open shifts to available Full-Time District Chiefs.
    • Personnel shall act in the position and roll the overtime down to the firefighter rank for both Captain and District Chief positions
    • Mandatory call back as defined above in “Open positions on the 2nd day of a tour of duty/Mandatory call back ” applies to both Captain and District Chief positions.
