Eligibility Question

Definitions
- Accidental Injury: Bodily harm unforeseen, unexpected, involuntary, externally caused
- Active Employment: Employed for wages or profit 25 hours or more per week
- Administrator: CUNA Mutual Insurance Agency, Inc.
- Advance: Loan extension
- Annual, Regularly Scheduled or Seasonal Layoff: Unemployment due to expected lack of work during certain times of the year
- Borrower: Natural person obligated to repay an advance
- Effective Date of Protection: Maximum of (a) date you purchased protection (b) reinstatement date of contract, or (c) date of advance
- LOAN: Closed-end or open-end credit plan
- Non-Protected Advance: Advance not protected by the contract terms
- Outstanding Balance: Total loan amount owed
- Program Fee: Monthly payment for protection, calculated in arrears (for prior month)
- Protected Balance: Principal, interest, program fee, and agreed-upon loan amounts; doesn't include other fees or non-protected advances
- Protected Payment: Minimum payment amount including principal, interest, and program fee due on the protected balance
- Sickness: Disease, illness, or condition affecting body, causing bodily malfunction or discomfort
- Temporary Employee: Limited-term employment or contingent assignments (different entity)
- Willful or Criminal Misconduct: Willful disregard of employer's interests, violation of rules, disregard of standards, negligent intent
Protected Events
- Life Plus Protection coverage:
- Death (prior to the 70th birthday): Full balance cancellation up to $100,000 (if death within the month preceding the 70th birthday) or 25% cancellation up to $25,000 (if death after the month preceding the 70th birthday).
- Two protected borrowers die: Lesser of Life Plus protection amounts for each or the Protected Balance is cancelled.
- Accidental Dismemberment: Injury (within 90 days) resulting in specific loss.
- Terminal Illness: Certified diagnosis with 12 months or less life expectancy.
- Hospitalization: At least 48 hours in hospital
- Family Medical Leave: Leave of absence (at least 14 days) for newborn, adoption, foster child, or care for sick family member.
- Loss of Life of a Non-Protected Dependent: Death of a non-protected dependent within the past two years; up to $3,000 cancellation
Disability Protection
- First 12 consecutive months: Unable to perform job duties due to sickness or injury, and under a physician's care
- After 12 months: Unable to perform job duties due to a medically determined illness or injury (and under a physician's care), for any job for which you are reasonably qualified.
- Qualifying requirements (employment income): Minimum income level for 14 consecutive days.
- Continuous payments: Canceled monthly payments for up to 24 months or $24,000 (whichever is reached first).
Involuntary Unemployment Protection
- Unemployment: Unintentional loss of employment for at least 14 days or receipt of state unemployment benefits.
- Active employment search required
- Monthly payment cancellation for a maximum of six months or up to $6,000 (whichever is reached first)
Non-Protected Events
- Atomic explosion, elective cosmetic surgery, intentionally self-inflicted injury, assisted suicide, events occurring before the effective date of protection
- Pre-existing conditions or treatment within 6 months.
- Death within six months of a pre-existing condition, events occurring within 3 months of effective date, or events related to normal pregnancy or childbirth; these events aren't protected.
