Components of CJIS

- Interstate Identification Index (III): tracks criminal history information for an individual set of prints collected by states.
CJIS System Access

Reading and Interpreting Criminal and Intelligence Data

- The request is made using purpose code X, and is defined by RSMo 210.482.
Dissemination and Usage Scenarios
- Multiple agencies operating in a task force: CJI may be disseminated agency to agency, which is secondary dissemination and must be logged per policy.
- CAD reports released to Fire and EMS personnel: not allowable dissemination, and all CJI must be redacted from the report.
- Release of traffic accident report to the public: not allowable dissemination, and all CJI should be redacted from the report.
- Running a check on a private individual (e.g. teenager's new boyfriend/girlfriend): not allowable use of any criminal justice system.
- Retired officer calling dispatch to run a check on an unknown vehicle: not allowable use of any criminal justice system.
