- Cloud computing is a type of computing that delivers on-demand, convenient, pay-as-you-go access to shared IT resources over the internet.
- Four types of cloud computing: public, private, hybrid, and vertical.
- Types of services on the cloud: Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS), and Software as a service (SaaS).
- Examples of cloud services: Salesforce, Gmail, Dropbox.
- Cloud characteristics: on-demand, convenience, scalability (depending on need/season).
Wireless Technologies
- Wireless technologies include mobile computing, mobile commerce, the Internet of Things (IoT).
- Mobile computing involves changing locations. Some wireless networks are fixed (e.g., microwave towers), while others are mobile (e.g., MiFi).
- Mobile commerce involves e-commerce transactions conducted on mobile devices.
The Internet of Things (IoT)
- IoT means virtually every object has processing power with global network connectivity.
- Examples: smart fridge, smart doorbell, smart lights, smart watch.
- Three major advantages: small size, sufficient computing power, and wireless communication.
- One disadvantage: worker data transmission risks for sensitive business information.

- Wireless media transmit signals without wires.
- Major types of wireless media channels: microwave towers, satellite towers, and radio towers.
- Electromagnetic waves are used for signal propagation.

- Reports present summarized data in different formats (e.g., text, graphs, pictures).
- Routine reports are scheduled (e.g., daily quality control).
- Non-routine reports are created on-demand (e.g., drill-down data).
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) measure performance against predefined standards.
- Exception reports show cases falling outside standards.
- ERP systems integrate business units.
