Study Notes
Scientific Method
- A systematic process used to develop and test scientific knowledge
Observation
- A careful and deliberate act of noticing and recording a phenomenon or event
- Often leads to a question or problem that sparks scientific inquiry
Hypothesis vs. Theory
- Hypothesis: A tentative, testable explanation for a specific phenomenon or problem
- Theory: A well-substantiated explanation for a set of phenomena, supported by a large body of evidence
Control Group
- A group in an experiment that does not receive the variable being tested
- Serves as a standard against which the experimental group can be compared
- Helps to isolate the effect of the variable being tested
Scientific Experiment
- A controlled and systematic test of a hypothesis or theory
- Aims to provide evidence that supports or rejects the hypothesis or theory
- The main goal is to answer a question or solve a problem through empirical evidence
