    Uniform Condemnation & Replacement

    • BCFD officers condemn unfit uniforms and are required to replace condemned items
    • BCFD members can purchase approved uniforms anywhere except Fatigue shirts and trousers, which must be purchased from the Logistics Division
    • Condemned uniforms are disposed of to prevent further use
    • Duty member must dispose of all condemned regulation uniforms and no part of a condemned uniform can be worn on or off duty
    • Fatigue shirts & trousers provided by Bernalillo County via the Logistics Division
    • Condemned Fatigue shirts and trousers must be turned into the Logistics Division for replacement

    Sleeping Attire

    • Personnel shall wear regular underwear while sleeping
    • T-shirts and shorts are recommended
    • Training academy staff and instructors can wear the alternate Gray uniform T-shirt during training, provided the shirt meets specifications

    Class "A" Uniform - Dress Uniform

    • Class "A" Uniform must be clean, pressed, altered to fit, and ready for use or inspection with 3 days' notice
    • All career members must obtain the full uniform within 90 days of probation completion
    • Required for funerals, court proceedings when representing the department, public speaking engagements, promotional assessments and interviews, promotional and awards ceremonies, and any other event ordered by the Chief of Fire & Rescue or their designee
    • Probationary employees will wear their Class B uniform for any event that would normally require a Class A uniform
    • Consists of:
      • Uniform cap with medallion
      • Dress coat with shoulder patches, badge, department award(s), and lapel buttons
      • Long sleeve dress shirt with badge, years of service bar (optional), nameplate, department award(s), one affiliation pin, and collar insignias for officers
      • Tie
      • White gloves - Only for funerals, memorials, or honor guard members
      • Dress Trousers - Female personnel may wear dress skirt

      • Dark blue or black socks - Females wearing dress skirt shall wear tan colored nylons with sheer toe

    Class "B" Uniform - Dress Uniform

    • Worn for the following events
      • Anytime that a Class A uniform is required within the first 90 days after an employee's probation has ended.
      • Any event ordered by the Chief of Fire & Rescue or the Chief's designee
    • Consists of:
      • Uniform cap with medallion
      • Long sleeve fatigue shirt with badge, years of service bar (optional), nameplate, department award(s), one affiliation pin, and collar insignias for Officers
      • Tie
      • Dress Trousers - Female personnel may wear dress skirt
      • Belt
      • Dark blue or black socks - Females wearing a dress skirt shall wear tan colored nylons, sheer toe
      • Dress shoes
      • Commando sweater with badge and nameplate is optional
      • Dress overcoat is optional

    Class "C" Uniform - Station Uniform

    • Worn:
      • Between 09:00 to 17:30 and 07:00 to 09:00 or end of shift
      • Formal classroom training
      • Station tours, public relations events, public presentations
      • On all calls except when PPE is warranted
      • During business hours for personnel working on special assignment at fire headquarters or training academy
      • Deputy Fire Marshals when they are going to court to represent the department on behalf of any citations they have issued
    • Consists of:
      • Uniform cap with medallion (optional)
      • Fatigue cap (optional)
      • Fatigue shirt with badge, years of service bar (optional), nameplate, department award(s) (optional), one Affiliation pin (optional), and collar insignia for Officers
      • Fatigue T-Shirt - Commanders are to wear plain white t-shirts under their fatigue shirts and must wear appropriately logoed T-shirts without their fatigue shirts, for proper identification
      • Fatigue trousers
      • Belt
      • Work boots or casual work shoes for Office personnel
      • Socks - dark blue, black, or white (white in boots only)

    Class "D" Uniform - Station Uniform

    • Shall NOT be worn:
      • When out in public for anticipated events (meals, public relations events such as school standby or visits, etc.)
      • Formal classroom training
      • Company inspection
      • When on station tours and public presentations
    • May be worn:
      • From 17:30 to 07:00
      • Special assignment personnel working in the warehouse
      • When working on apparatus to include truck swaps, equipment, and station projects
      • When on emergency scenes while wearing structural or wildland PPE

    Coveralls

    • Worn by Deputy Fire marshals while "Digging Out" a fire
    • When outside temperature or environmental conditions are causes for concern for employee's safety or health
    • Items with officer approval:
      • Boonie hat
      • Wool Knit Cap
      • Head Sox
      • Sorrel-type insulated snow boots
      • Blizzard-Pruf Freezer suit
      • Cold Weather Coverall

    Badges, Pins, Awards, and Nameplate

    • Bernalillo County shall furnish one badge from a designated vendor
    • Replacement of the badge will be at the member's expense
    • Members may purchase additional badges from the designated vendor at their expense with written approval from the Logistics Division Chief
    • All shirt collar insignias worn by officers shall be worn with the bell of the trumpet pointing toward the corner (tip) of the collar, one (1) inch from the collar end, and centered
    • Nametag shall be worn along the seam of the right breast pocket flap, centered vertically and horizontally with the top edge of the upper seam and the permanent crease, the nameplate pins aligned on the top edge of the upper seam
    • Only one IAFC, IAFF, or Fire Affiliate Pin may be worn, one (1) inch centered above the nameplate or department award(s)

    Years of Service Bar

    • Wearing of the "Years of Service" bar on the Class A, B, and C uniform shirt is optional
    • Only a single bar shall be worn
    • If worn, it shall be worn along the top of the seam of the left breast pocket flap, centered vertically and horizontally with the top edge of the upper seam and the permanent crease or badge line
    • Pins aligned along the top of the upper seam will serve as a guide

    Department Awards - Medals and Ribbons

    • Medals shall be worn on the right breast of the Class "A" Jacket, centered, directly above the inside pocket
    • Medals placed alongside each other in order of precedence in rows of three (3)
    • If there are multiple rows, the medals will be overlapped, top to bottom, with the bottom of the top medal positioned directly above the top of the medal positioned below
    • Award Ribbons shall be worn on the Class "A", "B", or "C" Shirt, centered, one half (½) inch above the name tag and one (1) inch below IAFC, IAFF, or Fire Affiliate Pin
    • Multiple ribbons shall be placed in order as stated in the "200-010 Awards Program" policy and procedure
    • Individual ribbons will not be worn independently pinned next to each other
    • They will be aligned in a single bar tray, to a maximum of three (3) ribbons wide
    • If you have four ribbons, the single ribbon will be worn above the three bar tray, centered along the top edge
    • If you have five ribbons, they will be worn in a double bar tray above the three bar tray, centered along the top edge
    • If the member has no medals, any award ribbons shall be worn on the right breast of the Class "A" Jacket and shall be centered, directly above the inside pocket
    • Awards Ribbons shall be worn on the Class "A", "B", or "C" Shirt, centered, one half (½) inch above the name tag and one (1) inch below IAFC, IAFF, or Fire Affiliate Pin
