    Temporary Modified Duty Assignment Policy

    • The Bernalillo County Fire Department (BCFD) allows members to work in a temporary modified duty capacity, based on their documented ability and restrictions.
    • Members may request temporary modified duty for off-duty injuries or illnesses.
    • Members must have their physician review and document any limitations to their job description and restrictions.
    • Members must submit a written notice signed by their physician releasing them to work in a temporary modified duty assignment.
    • A prognosis for complete recovery and ability to return to full duty must be stated on the release.
    • Temporary modified duty assignments are reviewed every 30 days and cannot exceed 6 months.
    • Members are expected to return to full duty as soon as possible and must submit a request to the Chief when their physician releases them to full duty.
