Backing Procedures for Division Vehicles
- Backing accidents are common and result in mandatory procedures for vehicles with two or more members.
- Drivers of vehicles with only one person must exercise extreme caution during backing operations.
- Both drivers and assisting officer(s) are held accountable for violations of these procedures.
- At least one person must assist the driver by directing the driver throughout the backing procedure to ensure a safe maneuver.
- Drivers and assisting officer(s) must maintain visual and voice contact during the entire backing process.
- The driver must instantly stop if they lose sight of the assisting officer(s).
- The assisting officer(s) must have a portable radio on the same frequency as the driver during backing operations.
- The driver must constantly monitor radio transmissions from the assisting officer(s) during backing operations.
RSU Procedures
- An officer, acting officer, or in-charge rescue person can request use of the RSU if they anticipate a need for rescue equipment or absorbent materials.
- Personnel from Station 5 and 19 are responsible for transporting the RSU to an incident.
- If Station 5 and 19 personnel are unavailable, the FAO dispatches the next closest available company.
- Tools, equipment, lumber, and cribbing carried on the vehicle are used to assist rescue personnel at a technical rescue incident.
- Any company can utilize the absorbent materials as required.
- Rescue companies on the incident are responsible for returning tools and equipment to the vehicle after use.
- The company that requested the RSU is responsible for replacing absorbent materials as soon as possible from Logistics or Station 4.
- Assigned rescue companies are responsible for checking the RSU every Wednesday.
