- Annual leave deducts from a soldier's leave balance, whereas convalescent leave is not charged as it is part of medical treatment.
- Soldiers receive 42 days of leave after pregnancy and childbirth; returning before this period requires physician approval.

- DA Form 31 is the official request form for leave, while DA Form 4179R serves as a Leave Control Log.
Types of Absences
- Administrative absence does not count as leave and is used for semi-official activities benefiting the Army.
- Emergency leave is chargeable and can be used for immediate family emergencies. Transportation costs related to emergency leave are the responsibility of the soldier's commander.
