Chapter 1: General
- Purpose: AFI 36-2650 provides guidance and procedures for training personnel assigned to aircraft, munitions, and missile maintenance.
- Objective: To provide various training types for personnel in their specific Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSCs)
- Applicability: This instruction applies to commanders, supervisors, unit training managers (UTMs), maintenance groups, squadrons, and training sections.
- Terminology:
- Shall, Must, Will: Mandatory requirements
- Should: Preferred or recommended methods
- May: Acceptable or satisfactory methods
- Primary Responsibility: The maintenance training section (UTM for AFR/ANG) is the point of contact for maintenance training.
- Training Priority: Training is an equal priority with operational training.
- Resource Allocation: Training resources are balanced with aircraft, support equipment, facilities, tools, funding, and personnel needs.
- Special Considerations: AFR/ANG requirements are mentioned in Chapter 10. Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and nuclear units have specific training requirements outlined in other manuals
- Contractors' Participation: Performance-based activities by contractors are managed according to contract or management plan rules.

- Maintenance Group Training Analysis Briefing: A quarterly briefing provided by the maintenance training section to the Maintenance Group Commander. This is also referred to as TAB
- Various Personnel's Participation in Training Briefs: Personnel are expected to attend the quarterly briefing. This includes squadron commanders and the Maintenance Group Superintendent with others such as schedulers, instructors, training managers, and QA officers, per instructions.
- Report Lost Training Time: Personnel must report lost training time as indicated by the MAJCOM.
