Study Notes
Limitations and Failures
- The RAM AIR inlet has a limitation for opening.
- If the Hot Air Press Reg.valve fails in a closed condition, the cabin will not be pressurized, and the pilots should switch to the other valve to maintain pressurization.
- If the cockpit trims air valve has failed in an open position, the "TRIM AIR" warning will be generated.
Temperature Control
- Adjusting the temperature selector rotary knob in the cockpit changes the temperature in the cabin.
- ACSC (Air Conditioning System Controller) controls the temperature in the cabin.
Pressurization Modes
- There are three modes of pressurization on the A320: AUTO, SEMI-AUTO, and MAN.
- If the pilot suspects that the selected controller is malfunctioning, they can change the controller (CPC) while operating pressurization in AUTO by switching to the other controller.
ECAM Cautions
- If one cabin pressure controller fails, an ECAM Caution will be generated.
Pressurization Operation
- If Cabin Pressurization is in AUTO and the Emer.RAM AIR is pushed open, the Out Flow Valve will close.
- If the MODE SEL switch is in MAN, the Out Flow Valve will be controlled manually.
- Safety Valves prevent over-pressurization in the cabin.
Landing Field Pressurization
- With the LDG ELEV selector in AUTO, the landing field pressurization uses the runway elevation as the reference altitude.
Negative Differential Pressure
- Negative differential pressure occurs when the cabin pressure is lower than the outside air pressure.
Ventilation System
- Pressing both Blower & Extract P/B to OVRD in the ventilation system allows the pilots to override the automatic blower and extract system.
- Conditioned air is distributed to the cockpit, cabin, and avionics bays in the air conditioning system.
- The trim air provides cool air to the air conditioning system.
Pack Controller Failure
- In case of zone controller primary and secondary channel failure, Pack one and Pack two will maintain a temperature of 18°C and 20°C, respectively.
- If the primary channel fails in the pack controller, the secondary channel will take over.
- If the secondary channel fails in the pack controller, the pack will default to a fixed temperature.
- If both the primary and secondary channels fail in the pack controller, the pack will default to a fixed temperature.
Ram Air and Mixture Unit
- When enabling Ram air to the mixture unit, the Ram air switch should be used when the aircraft is on the ground and the engines are not running.
Pack Flow Control
- The pack flow control valve is a proportional valve that regulates the flow of air to the pack.
- When bleed air is supplied from the APU, the Pack one flow is automatically selected.
- Each trim air valve optimizes the temperature by controlling the air flow.
- If the hot air pressure reg.valve fails open, the hot air pressure will increase, and the valve should be closed to prevent overheating.
