SUMMARY LeSSon 4&5: USing text editing with MicRoSoft woRd 1. A paragraph in word is any text that end with a hard return. 2. Paragraph formatting lets you control the appearance of individual paragraph. 3. Line space is the amount of vertical space between lines of text in paragraph. 4. The line spacing is typically based on the height of the characters, but you can change it to a specific value. 5. Paragraph space is the amount of space above or below a paragraph. 6. Increase/ Decrease button is used to move the paragraph further away from or close to the margin. 7. Text direction is very important when you are using right to left language. 8. Margins are the blank areas of space around the edge of your word document. 9. Microsoft word offers you the facility to use default margins settings or to do define your own margins. 10. To adjust your margin in your document, click on page layout tab. 11. Page size will affect your printed document layout. If your current page layout size does not match your printer document, your layout will completely mess up when printing. 12. Common paper size to use: A4, which is 21 cm width * 29.7 cm height. 13. The letter size could be your software default size, do not ignore it and change to A4. 14. Concerning the document orientation, two options are available. Portrait and Landscape. 15. A page displayed in portrait mode is longer than it is wide. 16. A page displayed in landscape mode is wider than it is long. 17. Graphical elements like pictures and other drawings can be added to a word document in order to make your document more visually appealing. 18. Pictures are objected created outside of word. 19. Drawing objects are created within word. 20. Pictures and online pictures located in the Illustrations group on the Insert tab. 21. The picture button will let you insert a picture that is saved as a file on your computer. 22. Online pictures will let you insert a royalty free clipart image from Office.com or from a web search result from Bing or another online sources. 1 23. Any modification to a picture inserted into the word document won’t affect or alter the original one. 24. Word art provides a method for applying a series of effects to a regular text. 25. The default word art style combines outlines, fills, shadows, reflections, glow effect and three-dimensional rotation. 26. One advantage of using word art is that you can position it anywhere on a page. 27. It is also possible to convert existing text into word art by selecting the text, then choosing the insert word art button in the text group on the insert tab. 28. To insert a new word art object, click the Insert Word art button. 2
