REVIEWER IN CPAR WEEK 1 ART is the expression or application of human creative skills Modern Art (1880s-1970s) - Fauvism, Impressionism, and Surrealism Contemporary Art (Present Day) - art created now, mostly by living artists. WEEK 2 Philippine Art History PRE-COLONIAL ART - before the colonizers reached the Philippine islands. SPANISH COLONIAL ART - upon the arrival of the Spaniards, indigenous art changed. AMERICAN AND JAPANESE Colonial Art - Americans introduced the public education system in the Philippines. - Japanese briefly occupied the Philippines during the 1940s CONTEMPORARY ARTS IN THE PHILIPPINES - focus on his vision of the “New Society.” WEEK 3 VISUAL ARTS are - wide array of artistic disciplines that are appreciated primarily through the sense of sight. FINE ARTS - first used to describe the art forms created primarily for its appearance rather than the practical use 1. DRAWING - uses instruments to mark paper or another two-dimensional surface. 2. PAINTING - artist applies paint, pigment, color or other medium 3. SCULPTURE – an artistic form in which hard or plastic materials are worked into three-dimensional art objects. 4. ARCHITECTURE – an artistic process of sketching, conceiving, planning, designing, and constructing buildings 5. ART PRINTS – a process of making an art through pressing an inked carved image in a hard surface DECORATIVE ARTS/CRAFTS - artworks were not considered as artists but rather as craftsmen. - both aesthetically pleasing and functional. 1. WEAVING (Textile Art) – the process of crossing one group of threads, 2. JEWELRY MAKING – the process of creating ornamental pieces worn for personal decoration 3. FURNITURE MAKING –creating equipment with the purpose to make a person's living space more suitable 4. POTTERY – the process and the products of forming vessels and other objects with clay 5. METAL CRAFTS - art made from metals like bronze, silver, gold CONTEMPORARY ARTS (Branch of Visual Art) - New and unusual art forms 1. ASSEMBLAGE – a form of sculpture composed of "found" objects 2. COLLAGE –pieces of paper, photographs, fabric, and another ephemeral are arranged 3. INSTALLATION ART – a large-scale, mixed-media art, often designed for a specific place 4. DIGITAL ART – refers to art made using digital media, 5. LAND ART – an art that is made directly in landscape PERFORMING ARTS MUSIC - manipulation of sound and silence. 1. ART MUSIC (classical music) - considered to be of high phono aesthetic value 2. POPULAR MUSIC - distributed to large audiences 3. TRADITIONAL MUSIC (folk songs) - survived from its creation to the current day 4. CHORAL MUSIC – music sung by a choir DANCE - regulated and deliberate order of body movement. 1. BALLET – theatrical dance 2. IMPROVISATIONAL DANCE - highlights a process of creating movement without pre-planning 3. HIP-HOP DANCE – a range of street dance styles 4. MODERN DANCE – a highly expressive style of dance 5. CONTEMPORARY DANCE – a style of interpretive dance that embraces innovation, blending techniques THEATER - actors/actresses perform experiences 1. MIME – a form of silent art that involves acting or communicating using only movements, 2. PUPPETRY – a form of theater or performance that involves the manipulation of puppets 3. TRAGEDY – a genre of drama based on human suffering and, mainly, the terrible or sorrowful events 4. TRADITIONAL THEATER - usually combines acting, singing, dance and music, dialogue, narration, or recitation. 5. OPERA – a staged drama set to music in its entirety, 6. MUSICAL THEATER – a form of dramatic production combining acting, singing, and dancing to tell a story. SALINTA MONON (1998) - binuwaya (crocodile) is to be Monon’s beloved design, which was the most difficult to weave. - Represented Bagobo culture. 3. DARHATA SAWABI (2005) - Famous for the pis syabit 4. EDUARDO MUCTUC (2005) - Exceptional Filipino Sculptor - Works with silver, bronze, and wood 5. HAJA AMINA APPI (2005) - master mat weaver 6. TEOFILO GARCIA (2012) - recognized for his beautifully crafted casque or tabungaw 7. MAGDALENA GAMAYO (2012) - textile weaver of the abel, the traditional blanket. WEEK 6 NORMS - defined as rules or expectations AESTHETICS - a set of principles underlying and guiding the work of art Philippine Art: Representation of Filipino Culture and Identity 1. MANUNGGUL JAR (March 1964) - By Victor Decalan, Hans Kasten, and a group of US Peace Corps volunteers. - reveals how essential the waterways were to our ancestors. - composed of the body, “ginhawa”, and the “kaluluwa”. 2.
