LIBEL 1 Libel is a crime defined in Article 355 of the Revised Penal Code, which punishes malicious accusations or defamation that cause dishonor, discredit, or contempt towards a person. Under the Cybercrime Prevention Act, libel is also punishable if committed through a computer system or any technology that may be developed in the future. 2 SEC. 5. Other Offenses (a) Aiding or Abetting in the Commission of Cybercrime Any person who willfully aids or abets the commission of any of the cybercrimes enumerated in this law will be held liable and can be prosecuted. (b) Attempt in the Commission of Cybercrime Any person who willfully attempts to commit any of the cybercrimes listed in this law will also be held liable and can be prosecuted. 3 SEC. 6. All Crimes Under the Revised Penal Code and Special Laws All crimes defined and penalized under the Revised Penal Code and special laws, if committed through the use of information and communications technologies such as the internet, are covered by this law. The penalty for such crimes will be one degree higher than what is provided for under the Revised Penal Code or special laws. 4 SEC. 7. Liability Under Other Laws A prosecution under this law does not prevent liability under other laws. This means that a person can still be prosecuted under other provisions of the Revised Penal Code or special laws, in addition to the penalties under the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
