32 33 34 -to diagnose someone with ADHD the symptoms have to be there before 12 years of age and it has to be inappropriate at that age 35 -LD à learning disability -ADHD kids have a high correlation with learning disability 36 -kids with ADHD are repulsive and if not treated they end up self medicating 37 -pediatricians are the number one profession that diagnoses a child with ADHD and treats it 38 39 -medications are used to send more dopamine to the prefrontal lobe to reestablish the balance 40 41 42 43 -it becomes difficult for the child around 5th or 6th grade bc they have cognitive limitations and as the grade level gets higher they have to make inferences and identity themes and think more critically about what they are reading -they kids tend to learn at a slower pace than other kids so they need more help 44 -kids with intellectual disability are very social oriented bc they’re not autistic kids which is why they’re called special populations however they can have some interpersonal problems bc they don’t get the complex aspect of language and social interactions 45 46 47 -problem during pregnancy can also cause down syndrome 48 49 50 -autistic kids don’t know how to pause and listen to a conversation so they basically dominate conversations 51 -they like to line up objects 52 53 -numbers are going up for children with ASD -location matters, could be bc there’s more psychologist in NJ that are able to diagnose these kids faster vs an area like alabama 54 -babies are born normal and have a normal birth and reach most developmental milestones but around 15-24 months of age the kids have a regression in skills -around that time they stop babbling and stop talking and develop social issues 55 -no environmental factors have been associated with autism 56 -a lot of the kids when they are young throw a tantrum bc they can’t communicate and can’t connect socially and they get frustrated -this makes it hard for the parents to calm down the child and the parents go out to see help 57 58 59 60 61 62 63
