Nominative sentencesEr ist ____ Mann Sie ist ____ Lehrerin Ich bin ____ Madchen Accusative RecapWhat do we refer to as accusative? What is the accusative verb? What is Dative? Dative can be known as the indirect object. An indirect object is the beneficiary of whatever happens in a sentence. It’s usually a person, although it doesn’t have to be. I sometimes think of dative as ‘the getter’ Example: I’m giving the girl a book = a book to the girl . Ich gebe dem Madchen das Buch Here I am nominative because I am the giver of the book Here the book is the direct object because it is being given therefore the book is akk -i.e. the victim of the verb Here the girl is dative because she is the indirect object-she is receiving the book i.e. the getter 2 Like nominative and akkusativ dative also has its own set of verbs that will always create a dative case in the sentence 1. Some dative verbs create a N>D>A sentence(physical) 2. Some dative verbs create a N>D sentence only(emotional) N-D-A-> Ich gebe der Lehrerin den Kuli N-D-> Ich folge der Katze DATIVE VERB “SOMEBODY” “SOMETHING” Somebody-Dative Something-Something Your turn- Remember we first identify verb, then identify gender of nouns, then get your cases, then remember your grid! der Mann gibt der 1. ___ ___ Frau die ___ Blümen 2. der ___ Junge vertraut ___ demMann 3. ___ antworte ___ Lehrer 4. ___ folge ___ Katze 5. ___ Junge droht ___ Mädchen 6. ___ glaubt ___ Öpfer 7. ___ Lehrerin zeigt ___ Klasse ___ Film _________________________________________________________________________ there was GebenEs gibt den Mann Es gab die Katze 3 Grammar Qs 2018 cold winter winter + kalt bade + zimmer bath room viertel+ stunde quarter hour sprach+ schule drei + mal 4 language school three times 2017 strassen and bahn friseur and salon hairsalon haupt + rolle stunden + lang eis + kalt 5 hour long ice cold In Week 1, we covered family vocabulary-Week 3 This week we are covering ‘School’ vocabulary and ‘Street’ Vocabulary Please see the separate handout Please remember to learn about genders as well as nouns Recap of GrammarWhat is a verb? doing word What is stem? infinitive - en What is infinive? most basic form with no change being made to verb Verb ListRegular Week 3 • Fortsetzen 6 • • • • • • Födern Flatern Falten Führen Grinsen Gucken Irregular Week 3 7
