SEA Civilizations Cycle 8 Meeting 1 Transfer Goals: The students will be able to utilize their understanding on how the relationship of early civilizations in Southeast Asia develops and affects the Philippines civilization. Essential Questions (EQs) 1. Do people have the power to challenge belief systems? How do foreign cultures affect a civilization? 2. How can geography affect the growth of a civilization? How do belief systems define a people and their culture? Essential Understanding (EUs) 1. The geographical feature enabled civilizations to share culture and beliefs and these greatly influenced ideas, society and government. 2. Southeast Asia had their own culture before the coming of foreign influence. Identify the countries and landmarks that can be seen in Southeast Asia. 1. Myanmar 2. Thailand 3. Vietnam 4. Laos 5. Physical Geography Archipelago Refers to a group or cluster of large and small islands surrounded by water. Archipelagos and peninsulas serve as bridges and passages between larger bodies of water. Rice Cultivation Is the predominant type of agriculture, especially in plains with sufficient irrigation. Cash Crops Are the agricultural products intentionally grow for profit or export to other countries. Fishing Is significant industry, leading to the export of seafood to various parts of the world. Mineral Resources The region when it comes to mineral resources also not lagging behind. There are variety of minerals which include nickel, copper, chromite, iron ore, tin, gold, natural gas and oil.
