The number of deaths per 1,000 people in a population per year. Example of UK in 2023 Death rate = (690,915 / 67,736,802) x 1000 = 10.200 The death rate is 10.200 births per 1000 people = 10 (Rounded off to whole number)  Natural Increase / decrease Natural increase This occurs when the birth rate exceeds the death rate during a given time period. The result is a net increase in the population size, excluding migration effects. Natural decrease This occurs when the death rate exceeds the birth rate during a given time period. The result is a net decrease in the population size, also excluding migration effects.  Natural Increase / decrease Example: If the birth rate is 11 per 1,000 people and the death rate is 10 per 1,000 people, the natural increase would be 11 − 10 = 1 per 1,000 people in 2023. Conversely, if the birth rate is 10 per 1,000 people and the death rate is 11 per 1,000 people, the natural decrease would be 10−11=-1 per 1,000 people in 2023.  What is Population Growth Rate?
