PURPOSE: To notify key personnel in the event that a threatening phone call is received on a non-recorded line. B. SCOPE: This instruction is to be used by staff answering phone calls on non-recorded telephone lines. C. AUTHOR: The Deputy Chief over Administration, or designee, shall be responsible for the content, revision, and review of this instruction. D. DEFINITION: All employees shall be responsible to take steps necessary to protect the city’s workforce from violence. All employees shall be familiar with this and City Workplace Violence Prevention Policy/Procedure HR9.05.01. POLICY A. IV. A threatening phone call includes: threats of violence or physical harm (to include explosive device) to an individual, organization, or location; threatening or intimidating language; or aggressive or hostile language. RESPONSIBILITY A. III. Type: Administration – 100 series Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department: Signature: 4/21/26 Expires: INTRODUCTION 1. II. FR100.08 3/21 4/21/21 2/15/94 It is the policy of LVFR to take immediate action when a threat of violence is received on a non-recorded telephone line. PROCEDURES A. Remain calm and note any relevant information while listening to the caller, including: 1. The incoming phone number if on the display. 100.08 Threatening Phone Calls.doc Page 2 of 2 B. 2. Whether the caller sounds male or female, has an accent or any other distinguishing vocal characteristics. 3. Any background noise or information indicating where the caller may be. 4. Exactly what threat is made such as to whom, when and where the threat or action may take place? Depending on the level of potential violence, contact a supervisor, contact city marshals, or call 911 for Metropolitan Police response. If calling the marshals or 911, provide gathered information to the dispatcher. Follow dispatcher instruction(s). 1. Notify the Communications Specialist Supervisor at x0407 or x0291 and any appropriate chief that a call was placed to city marshals or the police.
