**Why Sweat? Because it\'s VERY important!** You are born with eccrine glands. Eccrine glands ⇨ no smell During puberty, you develop apocrine glands. Apocrine glands ⇨ cause body odour (B.O) when your sweat mixes with bacteria These are located under arms, in the genital area, and on the scalp. **Sweat is\...** - a protective function to cool your body. - smelly when it mixes with bacteria on the skin. - unavoidable and normal. **Body Care** - Bathe and wash your hair frequently to remove dirt and oil from your skin that can mix with sweat to cause an odour. - Change your underwear and socks daily and change your clothes regularly. - Change your clothes if you\'re active during the day. - Use deodorant or antiperspirant on clean skin after washing and drying. - Deodorant is like a perfume which helps cover up B.O.. - Antiperspirants temporarily blocks sweat pores thereby reducing the amount of wetness mixing with bacteria on the skin. **Daily Facial Care** - Wash face twice daily (morning and night) with gentle soap or cleanser that will benefit your skin type. - Use moisturizer and sunscreen to enhance and protect your natural skin barrier. - Wash/change your pillowcase and sheets regularly. - Avoid popping pimples - this spreads bacterium - Manage stress - Do not scrub hard - If using make-up choose oil-free products and wash your brushes regularly - Drink water **Healthy Hair** - Dirt, dust, pollution, and sweat can cause dull/limp hair. - Over-styling can damage your hair (heat, rollers, brushes, over-teasing, dyes, etc). - If you want to use hair products, find ones best suited for your hair (ex. gel, mousse, wax, hair spray). **Hair Care** - Shampoos & conditioners should be used based on your hair type. - Shampoo - removes dirt, oil, and hair products. - Conditioner - detangles hair and moisturizes hair. - Rinse products out thoroughly to avoid buildup on your scalp which can cause dandruff. **Body Hair** During puberty, you may see an increase in hair on different parts of the body such as legs, under arms, chest, upper lip or chin. Choosing to remove body hair is a personal choice. You may choose to shave this hair, and may not need to shave often. **Dental Care** - Brush with toothpaste for 2 minutes at least 2 times per day (morning & bed). - Use a soft bristle toothbrush to protect gums. - Floss - Rinse your mouth with water after eating/snacking if you don\'t have a toothbrush. - Visit the dentist regularly for check-ups **Don\'t get sick** - Wash your hands well! - Cover your cough with your elbow or tissue! - Stay home if you\'re sick!
