One of the Seven Sages or Seven Wise Men of ancient Greece. Father of science Thales is recognized for breaking from the use of mythology to explain the world and the universe, instead explaining natural objects and phenomena by offering naturalistic theories and hypotheses. THALES OF MILETUS One of the Seven Sages or Seven Wise Men of ancient Greece. he is the founder of the Ionian School of philosophy, and reported Thales' hypothesis that the originating principle of nature and the nature of matter was a single material substance: water. HERACLITUS philosopher from the city of Ephesus HERACLITUS THE DOCTRINE OF FLUX The central idea of Heraclitus' philosophy is the unity of opposites. One of his most notable applications of this idea was to the concept of impermanence "No man ever steps in the same river twice."
