The Fundamentals - 6 players on the floor at any time; 3 in the front row and 3 in the back row - Points are made on every serve for the winning team of the rally - Players may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit) - The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve - A ball hitting a boundary line is in - A ball is out if it hits the antennae, the floor outside the court, the ceiling, and any non-playable area - The ball can be contacted with any part of a player's body - It is not allowed to catch, hold or throw the ball - After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net 2. The Match A regular season match will consist of 2 out of 3 games. 3. Scoring Rally scoring will be used. The winner of a game shall be the first team to 25 points. If a third game is necessary, it will be played to 15 points. All games must have a two-point margin (difference) for victory with a cap of 27 points in the first two games and a cap of 17 points in the third game. 4. Time Outs Each team may have a maximum of 2-time outs that are 30 seconds at a time. 5. The Server: The server is a designated back row player and cannot come to the net to attack the ball. 6. The Serving Line The serving line will be at 28 feet from the center line, allowing for 2 feet to be used for serving from the back (out) line. 7. Team Composition A team consists of six players on the court at one time. At least four players must be present to start a game. 8. Positions (6) There are 6 positions for players on the court: setter, middle blocker, outside hitter, opposite hitter, libero, and serving specialist. 9. Start of Play Begin by flipping a coin to determine which team serves the ball first. The two teams will rally, hitting the ball back and forth over the net, with a maximum of three hits per side.
