FLIGHT DECK (F/D) Also known as the cockpit. The area of the aircraft where controls and navigational equipment are located. The pilot sits in the cockpit. Emergency Doors/ Aircraft Exits A way out of the aircraft during an emergency. Most aircraft doors have two modes of operation: ○ Disarmed Mode: For normal entry and exit during boarding and deplaning. ○ Armed Mode: For emergency evacuation. Features in armed mode include slides that inflate when the exit is opened or when a handle is pulled. Placarded Exit Signs Clearly marked exits that will illuminate during emergencies or loss of power supply. Located above doors, overwing exits, and spread throughout the cabin. Floor Proximity Lights Lights or markings that illuminate the aisles, guiding passengers to the exits during emergencies or in a smoke-filled cabin. GALLEY The area of the aircraft where food and beverages are stored and prepared. Bulkhead Partitions separating service classes and different zones of the same service class. Overhead Bins/ Overhead Stowage Bins (OHB/OSB) Compartments installed above the seats in an aircraft, meant to store passengers' belongings. Crew Rest Area A section of a wide-body aircraft dedicated to cabin crew during breaks and rest. FA Jumpseat/ Cabin Crew Station Retractable and foldable seat meant for the cabin crew during takeoff and landing. Passenger Seat Components Passenger Service Unit (PSU) The entire unit located above a passenger seat. PSU Components Area Call Panel (ACP) Colored lights attached to the ceiling, doors, and galleys, indicating who requires attention: a passenger, pilot, or cabin crew. ACPs are installed in pairs in the cabin ceiling: ○ One pair in the FWD section next to the EXIT sign in the lowered ceiling. ○ Another pair aft in the ECY near the exit sign in the lowered ceiling. Features four individually controlled, illuminated colored fields: ○ Functions in connection with the call system. ○ Each color corresponds to a specific call in steady and flashing modes. COMMUNICATION Flight Crew to Attendant Call Indicators when Captain to Attendant call is initiated: 1. PINK/RED call light on the respective ACP illuminates. 2. A GREEN light illuminates on the AIP, and “” is displayed. 3. A HI/LO chime sounds. Flight Crew to Attendant Emergency Call Indicators when Captain to Attendant Emergency call is initiated: 1. PINK/RED call light flashes at all ACPs. 2. RED light illuminates on the AIP, and “” is displayed. 3. Three HI/LO chimes sound at all stations. Attendant to Captain Call Made by pressing CAPT; “” displays in the AIP. For emergencies: “” flashes on the AIP where the call is made. ATTENDANT INDICATION PANEL (AIP) 1. Installed near main attendant stations: ○ One opposite the FWD attendant seat. ○ One in the AFT ECY lower ceiling near the AFT right-hand attendant seat. ○ One above the AFT attendant panel near the AFT left-hand attendant seat. 2. Displays messages related to: ○ Handset operations, passenger calls, smoke detection system, and evacuation alerts. 3. Indicators: ○ GREEN: Communication system alerts for CC. ○ RED: Emergency information alerts for CC. Inflight Entertainment Equipment (IFE) Onboard equipment allowing passengers to watch movies, listen to music, or play electronic games. Lighting and Electrical System Systems providing light and power to the cabin and galleys. Cabin crew can control and adjust lighting. Water Systems Provide potable water for consumption and hot/cold water to the lavatories and galleys. Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) An alternate or backup power source located in the empennage, used while the aircraft is on the ground. Ground Power Unit (GPU) A portable power source providing power to the aircraft when the APU and engines are not in operation. Cargo Hold Space for storing cargo in the aircraft.
