Lesson 2: Structure and Function Organisms have developed many different ways of doing the things that keep them alive. The structures (body parts) they have developed to perform these tasks have different functions. Structures are the physical adaptations or traits an organism has to help it survive. Function is the job that the structures do to keep the organism alive. For example: lungs are structure and breathing is the function they do Structure vs. Function Game Each group group has a card labelled structure and a card labelled function. Be the first student to hold up the correct card when Ms. Mamer/Mr. Kim calls out either a structure or a function. 1 point for the first two groups to raise the correct card. The group with the most points at the end wins! OLD DEAD GUY SPOTLIGHT: CHARLES DARWIN Finches Video (2 min) Charles Darwin once said… “Some adaptations will increase an organism's chance of survival in a specific environment. Organisms that survive long enough to reproduce in a specific environment will pass successful adaptations on to their offspring. Over time the population will change to have more and more of the advantageous adaptation” Classwork Check Answer questions 1-4 on page 92 of the Science in Action 8 textbook
