Anthropology Derived from Greek, the word anthropos means “human” and “logy” refers to the “study of.” Quite literally, anthropology is the study of humanity. It is the study of everything and anything that makes us human. From cultures, to languages, to material remains and human evolution, anthropologists examine every dimension of humanity by asking compelling questions like: 1. How did we come to be human and who are our ancestors? 2. Why do people look and act so differently throughout the world? 3. What do we all have in common? 4. How have we changed culturally and biologically over time? 5. What factors influence diverse human beliefs and behaviors throughout the world? Anthropology  Anthropology is the systematic study of humanity, with the goal of understanding our evolutionary origins, our distinctiveness as a species, and the great diversity in our forms of social existence across the world and through time.  The focus of Anthropology is on understanding both our shared humanity and diversity, and engaging with diverse ways of being in the world. ARCHAEOLOGY Archaeologists study the material remains of present and past cultural systems to understand the technical, social and political organization of those systems and the larger culture cultural evolutionary process that stand behind them. Political Science a social science concerned chiefly with the description and analysis of political and especially governmental institutions and processes Political Science Comes from the Greek word “Politika” which means affairs of the cities Refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance over a human community Human Cultural Variation Human Cultural Variation It refers to the difference in social behaviors that different cultures exhibit around the world. What may be considered good etiquette in one culture may be considered bad etiquette in another. It refers to the rich diversity in social practices that different cultures exhibit around the world.
