 What is Interpreting? Definition: Interpreting is the oral translation of spoken messages from one language into another. Interpreting is the spoken communication of the ideas of a speaker of one language to a hearer who does not understand that language. The person who does this is called interpreter. Interpreting is used in places where people of different languages do not understand each other, such as conferences, meetings, courts, and clinics. (Gaber, 2005: 20) Simultaneous Consecutive Types of Interpreting Sight Translation Simultaneous Interpreting It is the simultaneous (or immediate) rendering of speech. The interpreter sits in a special room, listens to the speaker through headphones and, at the same time, translates the speaker's speech into a microphone. The microphone carries the interpreting to the audience through headsets.  Consecutive Interpreting It is the interpreting of speech part by part. The interpreter sits or stands next to the speaker. The speaker speaks for some time and then stops. The interpreter translates that part of speech and stops. Then the speaker speaks again and stops and the interpreter interprets and stops, and so on.
