Electronic Communication System : https://byjus.com/jee/communication-systems/  Is defined as the whole mechanism of sending and receiving as well as processing of information electronically from source to destination. The communication system:  is a system which describes the information exchange between two points.  The process of transmission and reception of information is called communication.  The major elements of communication are the Transmitter of information, the Channel or medium of communication and the Receiver of information. (C) Original by Dr Bouthaina, edited by Dr Harlina 2 I- INTRODUCTION 2- Block Diagram of Communication Systems https://boardmix.com/knowledge/communication-system-block-diagram./ A block diagram is a schematic that represents the workings of a system through the use of blocks and arrows. Each block signifies a specific part or function within the system, and the arrows indicate how information flows from one block to another. Block diagrams are not merely illustrative tools but serve vital functions in understanding and improving communication systems. (C) Original by Dr Bouthaina, edited by Dr Harlina 3 I- INTRODUCTION 2- Elements of Communication Systems The basic elements are: 1. Information source: the communication system exists to send messages. Messages come from voice, data, video and other types of information 2. Transmitter: Transmit the input message into electrical signals such as voltage or current into electromagnetic waves such as radio waves, microwaves that is suitable for transmission and compatible with the channel. Besides, the transmitter also do the modulation and encoding (for digital signal). 3. Channel/Medium – is the link or path over which information flows from the source to the destination. Many links combined will establish a communication network. The 2 main categories of channel that are commonly used are; line (guided media) and free space (unguided media) 4. Receiver - Receives the electrical signals or electromagnetic waves that are sent by the transmitter through the channel. It also separates the information from the received signal and sends the information to the destination. A receiver consists of several stages of amplification, frequency conversion and filtering. (C) Original by Dr Bouthaina, edited by Dr Harlina 4 II- STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEMS 1- Description Cabling system that allows constant moves and changes to be performed by on-site personnel Growth and flexibility built into the cabling scheme Can be either proprietary (closed) or non-proprietary (open) (C) Original by Dr Bouthaina, edited by Dr Harlina 5 Closed vs. Open Closed systems are proprietary to a particular vendor or system Open systems give greater flexibility by being applications and vendor-independent. Open System Architecture  Facility to run voice, video, and data service over the same cable.  Investment protects  On-site personnel can perform their own shifts and changes, thus reducing the cost of ownership (C) Original by Dr Bouthaina, edited by Dr Harlina 6 2- Systems of structured cabling Network-Specific Cabling System: A specified cabling system is designed to be installed according to a manufacturer's or network’s standard set of rules. Open Cabling System: A generic telecommunications cabling system for commercial buildings that will support a multiproduct, multivendor environment. That topology includes the placement of network devices, cable installation, transmission rates and signal type. Topologies are found in local area networks (LAN), where each point in the LAN has one or more physical links to other devices in the network. Graphical link-maps are known by the geometric shape they resemble: Bus, Ring, Star, Tree, Mesh, and Hybrids.
