TLE Reviewer 2 o An ax is a versatile cutting tool used to shape, split, and cut woods and fallen trees. o A billhook is used for clearing and cutting shrubs and branches of trees. o A hoe is one of the traditional hand tools with different head sizes and shapes. Most often, it is used in chopping, planting, weeding, furrowing, and cultivating soil. o A shovel is the most versatile tool in gardening. A shovel with round point is ideal for digging, lifting, and throwing because it cuts into the soil, while those with square point are for moving materials, such as piles of soil. o A spade is basically a smaller version of a shovel but with a flat, square-edged blade and short handle. o A garden spade has a square point end used for digging, cutting, and edging, o drain or trench spade has a narrow head, which is ideal for restricted spaces. o A garden shears of various sizes and shapes, such as hedge shears, lopping shears, forester shears, and grass shears, are used for pruning, trimming, and cutting of hedges, shrubs, and grasses. o A knife, such as grafting and budding knife, is used for budding and grafting operations and fine-cutting work. o A wheelbarrow is used to carry heavy materials, such as large rocks, concrete blocks, fertilizers, soil piles, and debris. o Plows are used in tilling the soil and making furrows in large farms. o The types of plows include moldboard plow, which turns over the soil o chisel plow, which breaks the soil, ridge plow, which creates ridges on the soil, and disc plow, which cuts the soil. o A harrow is used for tilling and pulverizing the soil. o spring harrow, which loosens up the soil, roller, which crushes the soil and breaks the lumps o chain harrow which aerates the soil and lifts and spreads out materials, and disc harrow, which prepares the field by chopping up weeds or left crop materials. o A rotavator is also used for tilling and pulverizing the soil. o A hedge trimmer is a machine used to trim, cut, and prune hedges or bushes. o A planter is an attachment for planting seed. There are various types of planter depending on the kinds of plants to be planted. o A cultivator is used when the plants begin to grow. It tills the soil between plants, thus, loosening soil and removing weeds.
