**Muscles of the head** \> two groups : [muscles of facial expression and muscles of mastication] **Muscles of facial expression** we have : muscles of the scalp ( cuir chevelu ), muscles around the eye opening , muscles around the oral opening , muscles around the nasal opening , muscles around the ear opening. They are all innervate by the facial nerve and they inserted on skin of face- head to form wrinkles.and they all come , during the embryonic development to the 2^nd^ pharyngeal arch -Muscles of the scalp Occipitofrontalis muscle \> composed with the occipital belly : origin = highest nuchal line ( occipital bone ) insertion = Epicranial aponeurosis And the frontal belly : origin = epicranial aponeurosis insertion = skin of eyebrow Function = to pull the skin of the forehead up , forming horizontal lines on the forehead , -muscles around the eye opening 1\) orbicularis oculi \> with orbital part \> origin and insertion :in the medial palpebral ligament , palpebral part \> origin: medial palpebral ligament insertion: lateral palpebral ligament -\> the function of the two parts is to close the eyelids and lacrimal part \> origin : lacrimal bone insertion : lacrimal sac , function : open lacrimal sac so that the tears can flow down 2\) procerus muscle \> origin : bridge of nose insertion : skin of forehead 3\) corrugator supercilii \> origin : glabella , supraorbital margin , insertion : at the skin of the eyebrow function : forming the facial expression of frowning ( froncement des sourcils ) and pain -muscles around the mouth opening 1\) for smile -zygomaticus major \> origin zygomatic bone -zygomaticus minor \> origin zygomatic bone -risorius \> origin masseteric fascia on top of masseter muscle They all insert at the skin of the angle of the mouth and they all have the function to produce the smile 2\) for angle of the mouth -muscles that lift the angle of the mouth : Levator anguli oris \> origin : anterior surface of maxilla , insertion : skin at the angle of the mouth Levator labi superioris \> origin : infraorbital margin of maxilla , insertion : skin of the upper lip -muscles that depresses the angle of the mouth Depressor anguli oris \> origin at the base of the mandible insert at the skin of angle of mouth Depressor labi inferioris \> origin at the base of the mandible and insert at the skin of lower lip These muscles make the sad face 3\) lateral wall of oral cavity "satisfaction" Buccinator muscle originate at the alveolar process of mandible and maxilla and insert at the skin of the angle of the mouth Function to pull the angle of the mouth laterally forming a facial expression of satisfaction 4\) lips " kissing muscles" Orbicularis oris with marginal part and labial part they produce the mouth forming a kissing face 5\) Chin (menton) "muscles of doubt" Mentalis muscle originate from the alveolar process of the mandible and insert at the skin of the chin Function to pull the skin upwards and forming the face of doubt -muscles around the nasal opening Nasalis muscles with transverse part and alar part that both originate from the anterior surface of maxilla and both insert at the dorsal cartilage of the nose Function to constrict and dilate the nostrils Levator labii superioris alaque nasi originate from the frontal process of the maxilla and insert at the skin of upper lip and the skin of nasal wing Function to produce an facial expression of discontent while dilate the nostrils and elevate the upper lip -muscles around the ear opening Extrinsic muscles of the ear with the auricularis anterior originate from the temporal fascia auricularis superior originate from the epicranial aponeurosis auricularis posterior originate from the temporal bone they all insert in the auricle and they all have the function to move the auricle in each direction. **muscles for mastication we have** -the temporal muscle originate from the temporal fossa and the parietal bone ( inferior temporal line ) and insert at the coronoid process of the mandible his function is to elevate and retracts the mandible -masseter muscle Originate from the zygomatic arch And insert at the masseteric tuberocity of mandible The function is to elevate the mandible -medial pterygoid muscle Origin of his superficial part = the maxillary tuberosity Of his deep part = pterygoid fossa of pterygoid process Insertion : pterygoid tuberocity of mandible Function to elevate the mandible (bilateral contraction) -lateral pterygoid muscles Origin of his superior head = infratemporal surface and sphenoid bone Origin of his inferior head = lateral lamina of pterygoid process ( sphenoidal bone) Insertion in the pterygoid fovea of mandible Function to push the mandible forward ( bilateral contraction ) Muscles of the neck superficial muscles- fascia with -The platysma originate from the skin of infraclavicular region and insert in the [mandible](https://www.kenhub.com/en/library/anatomy/the-mandible), the [skin](https://www.kenhub.com/en/library/anatomy/integumentary-system) of the lower face, lower lip and the corners of the mouth his function is to tenses the skin of the neck Deep fascia -sternocleidomastoid muscle \< clavicle and sternum attachment and mastoid process his function is to turn the head at opposite side and flexes the neck on same side -trapezius muscle for elevating the scapula and extension of the head and neck Prevertebral fascia with -scalene muscles Anterior , middle and posterior They elevate the 1rst and 2^nd^ ribs and also lateral flexion of the neck -levator scapulae -longus capitis muscles and longus colii muscles Pretracheal fascia with -infrahyoid muscles : sternohyoid , omohyoid , sternothyroid , thyrohyoid For depress and support the hyoid bone and the larynx Une image contenant texte, capture d'écran, Police, nombre Description
