## Accidents Accidents are any situations that involve someone getting harmed or hurt in any way. Therefore, accidents have a direct link to our health. Because of this, it is important that we know how to deal with them and what to do in every situation. Almost always accidents are the result of not being careful enough, and although some can seem very minor (like cutting your finger) you should try to avoid all kinds of accidents. ### Preventing Accidents Preventing accidents is as simple as being prepared and taking the necessary precautions, such as keeping things in their place and putting dangerous items like knives or chemicals out of reach. If you cannot avoid or prevent an accident from happening, it is important that you know how to act when it happens. ## The Spine Remember that movement is, in part, provided by our bones. The main support of our bodies comes from the spine, or spinal cord. The spine is a long, stem-like structure that goes from the head to the hips. The spinal cord is able to provide so much support to the rest of our bodies because of its structure. It is made up of vertebrae, plus the coccyx and the sacrum. All of these structures combined make it possible for bodies to carry all their weight and move. ### Vertebrae Vertebrae are divided into cervical, thoracic and lumbar. These structures have a hole in the center forming a conduct called the spinal canal, in which the spinal cord is housed. From the spinal cord many peripheric nerves are born. Vertebrae are like pieces in a puzzle: they are all perfectly shaped to fit into another. You cannot live without your spine or any of its parts, not even one. ### Illustration - The illustration shows a labelled image of a spine. - The spine is divided into four parts by a vertical line: - Cervical Vertebrae - Thoracic Vertebrae - Lumbar Vertebrae - Sacrum - It shows the position of these structures relative to each other.
