# Space Revision ## Heavenly Objects - **Light year:** how far light travels in a year - **Moon:** Natural satellite, orbits Earth - **Planet:** A circle like object orbiting a star (the sun) - **Mercury:** Smallest & closest planet to the sun - **Venus:** Hottest planet - **Earth:** Only place that has water & life - **Mars:** The red planet - **Jupiter:** Largest/ has a big red spot - **Saturn:** Has rings around it & 150 moons - **Uranus:** Tilted planet - **Neptune:** Rains Diamonds - **Pluto:** Is not a planet but is a dwarf planet that lives in the Kuiper belt - **Comet:** Dust particles frozen in ice & orbits the sun - **Meteor:** Dust and rock that move through the sky - **Meteorite:** Any type of meteor that have fallen on Earth - **Asteroid belt:** A belt full of rock and iron and sits between Mars & Jupiter - **Solar system:** A system that has a star and planets ## Solar Eclipse - Outer, Inner, Umbra, Penumbra - Earth's darkest shadow/ inner shadow - The moon will look like this: - Only if it is perfectly aligned with the sun ## Lunar Eclipse - Only red at total eclipse - Umbra, Penumbra - Darkest shadow - Outer shadow - Known as blood moon There are 2 types of Lunar Eclipses: 1. **Partial:** When only a part of the moon enters Earth's umbra creating a dark visible shadow 2. **Total:** The moon completely enters the umbra which the moon will turn red (Blood moon) ## Diagram of Sun, Earth, Moon & Comet - Sun - Earth - Moon - Comet ## How to Figure Out Gravitational Field Strength, Mass & Weight - Gravitational field strength (N/kg) - Mass (kg) - Weight (N) - Find the unit with your hand - Divide/multiply to get your answer - **For M & G:** Multiply - **For W & G:** Divide W first/ put it first - **For M & W:** Divide (put weight first)
