School Readiness Checklist Work through this checklist with a child to determine how ready they are for school! Don’t worry if they can’t fill in every box. Understanding where they might struggle will give you a better idea of where to allocate support. Health & Wellbeing Early Numeracy I can get dressed by myself I can count 10 objects I can open my lunch box, the packaging, I can recognise numbers up to 10 and eat by myself I can recognise and create a simple pattern I can put on my socks and shoes I can use the toilet on my own and wash my I can sort things from smallest to largest hands after I like trying new puzzles Social & Emotional Early Literacy Language & Communication I can listen to and follow instructions I can write and recognise my name I use words to talk about thoughts, wants, needs and feelings I take turns, share, and help others I can hold a pencil I speak clearly enough that other people I can keep trying, even when I don’t know how understand me I know how a book works to do something I use complete sentences and connect ideas I can work and play both independently and I know some words that rhyme in a group I can say or sing familiar songs and nursery I know some letters of the alphabet rhymes I enjoy following the rules I follow one and two step directions such as: I can calm myself down when I get frustrated I enjoy books “Please make your bed and brush your teeth”
