# The Creature Tells of His Early Life ## Part 1 - It's hard to remember my early life. - My senses were mixed up. I was born fully grown but I was like a baby. - I didn't know why you ran away. I didn't know how ugly I was. I left your house. I lived in the woods. - I was cold, hungry, and thirsty. Days passed. All I knew was hunger and darkness. I was sad. I didn't know why. - Every day, I changed. My mind found new ideas. My eyes became used to the light. I could see things clearly. - I found a campfire one day. The warmth made me happy. I touched it. I found out it could burn me. I soon learned how to make a fire myself. - Food was hard to find. Sometimes I had only acorns to eat. I decided to go somewhere else to find food. Snow had fallen. My feet were cold. - I traveled for hours. I arrived at a small village. I saw vegetable gardens. ## Part 2 - Milk and cheese were in the windows of the houses. I tried to enter a cottage. The villagers attacked me. I ran back to the country. - I hid in a shed. It was next to a small cottage. I knew I shouldn't go in. The shed made a good shelter. - I found a crack in the wall. I could see through it. But they didn't notice me. I saw an old man, a young man, and a young woman. The old man played a guitar. The others sang. It was beautiful! These people seemed to have everything. And I had nothing. No one loved me. - I spent most of the winter in the shed. I heard the family making sounds. Finally, I understood they were talking. I wanted to learn how to speak. - I learned slowly. My first words were fire, milk, bread, and wood. The old man was Father. The young man was Felix. The young woman was Agatha. I began to love them. # Frankenstein Meets the Creature - "That I'll kill you? I wish your death would bring back your murdered victims! Go away!" - The monster didn't try to hurt me. He said, "I thought you'd act like this. People always hate the pitiful. I'm the most pitiful of all living things! Even the lowest man is loved by his creator." - He continued, "You are my creator. But you hate me! I only want one thing. If you give it to me, I'll leave you in peace. But if you don't, I'll kill everyone you love." - "Hated monster! Come closer. I'll kill you!" I jumped at him. He got away. - "Calm down," the monster said. "Won't you please help me? I have no one who loves me. Everyone is against me. It's not my fault. Please hear me." - I thought about what he was saying. I was his creator. Maybe I did owe him something. The creature told me to follow him. We went to a hut on the mountain. He told me his story.
