# Frankenstein Meets the Creature I felt terrible. I was full of guilt. I thought my work would be something good. Everything was terribly wrong! All this changed me. The sounds of happiness tortured me. I wanted to be alone. Sometimes I wanted to drown myself. But I thought about my family. That would only bring them more pain. I cried bitterly. I wished for peace. But there was no peace for me. I was the cause of this evil. I was afraid the monster would commit a new crime. I hated him more than I could say. I wanted to kill him. Our house was very sad. Elizabeth was not herself. "I think about Justine," she said. "The world is no longer a good place. William and Justine were murdered. The criminal is free. He's a horrible person." This made me very sad. I didn't kill anyone. But I was the true murderer. I drew close to Elizabeth. I was afraid the monster would take her away. I was surrounded by a dark cloud. Nothing made me feel good. I left home. I went to the Alpine valley. I listened to the sound of the waterfalls. I began to feel better. Everything looked beautiful. The river sounded like a song. I finally slept well. I climbed up the mountain. I wanted a long, hard walk. I reached the top. It felt good. I looked down on the beauty below. Suddenly, I saw the figure of a man. He was running towards me. It was the monster I had created! I shook. "Devil!" I shouted. "Aren't you afraid that I'll kill you? I wish your death would bring back your murdered victims! Go away!" The monster didn't try to hurt me. He said, "I thought you'd act like this. People always hate the pitiful. I'm the most pitiful of all living things! Even the lowest man is loved by his creator." He continued, "You are my creator. But you hate me! I only want one thing. If you give it to me, I'll leave you in peace. But if you don't, I'll kill everyone you love." "Hated monster! Come closer. I'll kill you!" I jumped at him. He got away. "Calm down," the monster said. "Won't you please help me? I have no one who loves me. Everyone is against me. It's not my fault. Please hear me." I thought about what he was saying. I was his creator. Maybe I did owe him something. The creature told me to follow him. We went to a hut on the mountain. He told me his story.
