EXAMPLES OF ERGONOMICS IN THE WORKPLACE 01 CHAIRS WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT 02 DESK WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT 03 KEYBOARD AND MOUSE PLACEMENT 04 PROPER LIGHTING 05 FOOTREST 06 PROPER MONITOR PLACEMENT 07 HEADSET FOR HANDS-FREE COMMUNICATION 08 REGULAR BREAKS CHAIRS WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT - These chairs allow employees to adjust height, backrest angle, and armrest positions for optimal comfort and posture. This prevents strain and discomfort from prolonged static postures. -As part of a desk, seat & equipment assessment in the workplace, you’re encouraged to have a proper sitting posture and to set up your equipment in a manner that facilitates proper posture. This is an example of your chair being able to accommodate you ergonomically. DESKS WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT - A desk with adjustable height is a piece of furniture that allows you to change the height of the desk surface. You can adjust the desk to your preferred height, whether you want to sit or stand while working. - A desk with adjustable height offers a more ergonomic and customizable work environment, promoting both comfort and health. KEYBOARD AND MOUSE PLACEMENT - Positioning your keyboard and mouse correctly is essential for preventing strain and discomfort, especially during long work sessions. - The keyboard should be at or slightly below elbow level, this allows your forearms to be parallel to the floor. The mouse should be at the same level as the keyboard. This ensures your arms don't have to be raised or lowered frequently, reducing strain. PROPER LIGHTING - Adequate lighting minimizes eye strain and headaches. Natural light is ideal, supplemented by task lighting to avoid glare and shadows. - This could be in the form of adjustable lighting, desk lamps and floor lamps to reduce glare and prevent eye strain and discomfort. Avoid positioning a screen in front of a bright light source too. FOOTREST - A footrest is a supportive device placed under a desk to help keep your feet flat on the floor when your chair is too high, or to provide extra comfort when sitting for long periods. It helps maintain proper posture by ensuring your legs are at the correct angle, reducing strain on your lower back and legs.. PROPER MONITOR PLACEMENT -The top of your monitor should be at or slightly below eye level. This prevents you from tilting your head up or down, reducing neck strain. This is easily achieved by adjusting your chair height and using a monitor stand if necessary. - The distance between your eyes and the screen should be approximately an arm's length away. This minimizes eye strain and reduces the risk of nearsightedness. HEADSET FOR HANDS- FREE COMMUNICATION - A headset for hands-free communication is a device that allows you to talk on the phone or participate in online meetings without holding a phone or using your hands. It typically consists of a microphone and a speaker, which are connected to your device via a wire or Bluetooth. REGULAR BREAKS - Regular breaks are a fundamental principle of ergonomics, playing a crucial role in preventing discomfort, fatigue, and potential injuries associated with prolonged static postures and repetitive tasks. - Ergonomics is about creating a balance between work and rest. Regular breaks are a crucial part of that balance. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
