# Relining, Repair, Rebase Complete Dentures Batterjee Medical College For Science and Technology ## Dr. Malak Bamigdad BDS KAU, Saudi Board in Prosthodontic dentistry ## Topics - Relining of CD - Repairing of CD - Rebasing of CD ## Textbook of Complete Dentures Sixth Edition Arthur O. Rahn John R. Ivanhoe kevin D. Plummer ## Relining Resurfacing or correction of **denture adaptation** to underlying tissues by the addition of a new material to its fitting surface **without changing its occlusal relation**. ## Relining: Indications - Dentures with poor fitting to soft tissues and residual ridges. - Compromised VDO due to the dramatic tissue changes have caused the dentures to lose their proper ridge orientation. - Poor esthetics dentures because excessive bone loss under the prostheses has resulted in a loss of face height or repositioning of the anterior teeth. - Abused and irritated tissue due to wear ill-fitting denture for long period. ## Tissue conditioning material Tissues and material must be examined frequently, with the material being replaced as necessary. ## The factors affecting decision to reline an existing denture - The occluding vertical dimension must be correct - Centric relation occlusal position must be stable or correctable through occlusal adjustment. ## Relining Contraindication Dentures have severe wear and poor general appearance, which may preclude a successful reline procedure. A poor occlusal plane (A) that cannot be corrected is a contraindication to a reline procedure. ## Differences during making impression for Denture relining - Using existing denture as an impression tray. - Maintain VDO and centric relation ## Types of Reline: - Clinical Reline - Laboratory Reline ## Closed-mouth technique Patient is required to close and maintain the dentures in proper occlusion at the correct OVD while the impression material sets. The final impression is made with the patient in the proper occlusal position at the proper occluding vertical dimension. ## Open-mouth technique - Patient is not maintain occlusal contact - Usually requires extensive occlusal equilibration at insertion and can even allow the denture to be misaligned in its proper relationship to the residual ridges. ## Reline Procedure tips: - No holes are required on the Mandible - Create space for the impression material, reduce at least 1 mm from fitting surface. ## Completed reline impression ## Completed reline with new acrylic resin on the intaglio surface ## Repairing Denture may fracture during the function, or may drop on a hard surface. The key of repairing is the accurate reassembling and alignment of the broken parts in their original position. ## Repair procedure Tips: ## Rebasing ### Definition It's a process of readaptation of a denture to the underlining tissues by replacing the denture base material with a new one without changing its occlusal relation. ### Indications Existing denture base is unsatisfactory; crazed or porous. ## Rebasing ### Procedure - Take impression for both arches using complete dentures as trays - Send it to the lab ## Any questions? ## Quiz **Kahoot!** ## Thank you
