Reading- personality Power of personality: Personality traits predict life outcomes, mortality, divorce and success Personality traits do change in adulthood through therapeutic intervention In the domains of health, relationships, educational and occupational success Social environmental factors and personality affect health and development together Personality traits predict life outcomes better than SES(socio economic status) They predict through indirect pathways o Ex: students with higher cognitive abilities will have high educational attainment and better work opportunities in the future Five factor model of personality: Research discovery 1: Women are more open to aesthetic experiences o Typically warmer o Score higher in N and A Men are more open to ideas o More assertive o Lower on N and A Between adolescence and old age scores on N & E decrease, A, C, O increase until 20s then decreases Universality of the FFM is due to biology. All humans share same biology.
