# Propaganda Techniques ## Quarter 3 Lesson 1 ### Types of Propaganda Techniques 1. **Card-Stacking** shows the product's best features, tells half-truths, and omits its potential problems. 2. **Name-calling** uses names that may evoke fear or hatred among the viewers. 3. **Bandwagon** persuades people by showing them that everyone else are doing the same thing. 4. **Plain Folks** use of common people to sell or to promote a product or service. 5. **Glittering Generalities** the act of referring to words or ideas that evoke a positive emotional response from an audience. 6. **Soft Soap** use of flattery or insincere compliments designed to get the audience on the side of the speaker. **Example:** > Hey lady! Welcome to our bazaar! You look stunning. I'm sure the dress that I'm selling would fit on you. Want to try it? > In this scenario, the salesman is trying to convince the lady to buy the dress that he is selling by flattering and complimenting her. He uses the word gorgeous instead of ma'am or miss. He says, "You look stunning. The dress would fit on you." > This shows an example of soft soap propaganda technique because the salesman uses flattery or insincere compliments to convince the costumer. 7. **Testimonial** a technique wherein a famous or seemingly authoritative person recommends a product or service, and vouches for its value. 8. **Transfer** advertiser tries to 'transfer' the good or bad feelings you have associated with something to their brand, product or service. 9. **Simplification** This is used to reduce crucial issues to basic ideas and packages them with catchy slogans and images. 10. **Loaded Words** uses words in attempting to influence an audience by using emotional appeal.
