Empowerment Technology Module 3 ICT as Platform for Change Lesson 9 Ryan Patrick J. Racho Objectives At the end of the class period, the teacher should be able to: 1. make students exemplify how ICTs have changed the way people communicate 2. make students illustrate how ICTs can serve as tools to create social change; and 3. make students share personal experiences in using ICT to be part of a social movement, change, or cause. Social Media means engaging people to create videos or thoughts or share them with others using virtual network. It is believed that marketing on social media has great benefits. First, it increases the visibility of products to customers. Also, customers decide faster which product to buy. On top, it is easier to have a relationship between sellers and buyers. Finally, sellers will have better view about their products and how to improve sales, prices, quality, quantity, and most importantly, how customers feel about their products through online feedback. Many people believe that Internet access should be a basic human right: everyone should have equal access to the information and opportunities available from Internet- connected computers. Unfortunately, there's an uneven distribution in access to computing devices and the Internet. Some people have no computing device at all, some people have high-speed Internet on their home computer, and many are somewhere in the middle. This difference in access is referred to as the digital divide and is often due to socioeconomic, geographic, or demographic factors. The Role of ICT in the Recent History Social media has done a lot of help to everyone of us. The internet and social media provide young people with a range of benefits, and opportunities to empower themselves in a variety of ways. Young people can maintain social connections and support networks that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, and can access more information than ever before.
