College Professor PEOPLE AS MEDIA People as media are people that are well- oriented towards media outlets and communications and can provide as accurate and reliable information as possible. Individuals function as knowledge sources. This is traditionally restricted to folk media, writing, or making an artifact in the media. With the emergence of social media, people have not only been empowered to build media objects, but also to provide input, edit and add to the media artifact. PEOPLE IN MEDIA People in media are media professionals who provide information through their expertise or first- hand event experience. Traditional Media Has Affected Filipinos In the Past, Throughout the Different Eras awareness was Pre- Spanish conveyed via Era folk media and indigenous forms of information. While education was limited to the Spanish Era elite, the propaganda campaign that led to the revolt of the people against Spanish rule was advanced by the publication of books (i.e., Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo) and newspapers (La Solidaridad). Filipinos did not have a shared language at the time. Spanish was spoken and understood only by the elite. Communication was thus prohibited. For the avoidance of political persecution, pen names were used. American and Japanese Era Major newspapers (i.e. the Manila Times and Manila Bulletin), radio broadcasts and movies were available during this era. The media has been used by the government and other groups for propaganda. Philippine Post-War Journalism'sEra Golden Age. Advertising, education in communication, and freedom of the press flourished in this period. The state takeover of the Martial media, andLawtheEra press and the picture engineering of the Marcoses in the name of nationalism are highlights of this period. For the Philippine media, People Post-EDSA Era Power brought greater freedom. The new Constitution acknowledged the crucial role of communication and data in nation- building during this period. Careers: web designers, online teachers, digital Modern Era creators, bloggers, animators, programmers, archivists, metadata researchers, data miners, designers of customer interface, agents of call centers, virtual assistants. READING FOR 03 COMPREHENSION STEP 03 READING FOR COMPREHENSION This is not just one reading, but there is no specific number. It means reading in detail, paragraph by paragraph, word by word, inspecting the text and taking out all the information required to understand it as clearly as possible This reading includes: Underlining and highlighting: there is no perfect way of underlining, but it is important for the underlining to offer the visual information required to, in just one glance, remember and locate relevant information, which will facilitate the next step. Notes in the margin Search for information 04 OUTLINE OR SUMMARY STEP 04 OUTLINE OR SUMMARY Don’t do it until you have understood fully. Differentiating between the outline that you do for your teacher and the one you do for yourself. The latter should be personalised. Although there are several types (summary, development outline, key outline…), each person must use whatever helps them most (which shall also depend on the study objective) What matters most is for the outline to be used as a script to be memorised: 1. The aim is to reduce the text information and be left with something smaller, but which contains all the information which needs to be remembered 2. A good outline must be effective: a script so you don’t have to go back to the text every time INITIAL 05 MEMORIZATION STEP 05 INITIAL MEMORIZATION Use the outline or summary as a script and verify whether it can be used to remember what was read. If you need to go to the text constantly to remember, then the outline is not effective. You will have to include the information that is missing 06 MEMORIZATION AND REVIEW STEP 6 MEMORIZATION AND REVIEW You can study in a quiet voice, but talk out loud (which is called the production effect). It is more effective to move around the room talking out loud, act like the teacher, record a video or audio or present to someone else Studying in motion also promotes memorization A review is the successive memorization repetitions on subsequent days It is important to study sufficiently in advance to carry out the necessary reviews before the day of the exam FINAL TIPS The number of readings required shall depend on: COMPLEXITY OF THE STUDENT’S ABILITY CONTEXT HOW AND HOW MUCH TO STUDY CONCENTRATION LEVEL STUDY OBJECTIVE THANKS!
