They include objective information and fact-based research. It is helpful to clarify or simplify concepts, theories, or ideas that an audience may otherwise be unfamiliar with. Informative speeches have one thing in common, a purposeful message with a captivating delivery. To pick up the important topic, understand the basic guidelines. (Who, What, When, Where, and Why) According to Logan, H (2024). August 2024 PC- Purposive Communication 17 How To Pick an Informative Speech Topic? ▪Who: Before you start looking for a topic, you should know who you are in your audience. ▪What: Consider your passions and existing knowledge about the subject. The “what” of your speeches is the meeting of the presentation. August 2024 PC- Purposive Communication 18 How To Pick an Informative Speech Topic? ▪ When (Length): The length of your speech can drastically impact how in-depth you dive into the topic. ▪ Where: Consider where you will be speaking and what kind of technology you will have available. According to Beqiri Gini (2021), it is a speech intended to convince the audience to believe or do something. August 2024 PC- Purposive Communication 20 SPEECH TO PERSUADE A Persuasive speech aims to persuade the audience to perform a certain action or convince them to adopt the belief or opinion of the speaker. August 2024 PC- Purposive Communication 21 The best way to prepare for persuasive speaking opportunities is to: 1. Think of the audience. 2. Make an outline of your speech. 3. Craft a clear call to action. 4. Add visuals if possible. 5. Refine your delivery. Communication is a fundamental skill that enhances clarity and impact. It is expressing ideas concisely without sacrificing meaning or depth. It simply allows the audience to enjoy themselves in some way. Entertainment speeches are often humorous and may include jokes or amusing anecdotes. This category includes any speech or story to bring out emotions, sadness, grief, wonder, and joy for their own sake. Engaging in entertaining activities helps to reduce stress and anxiety levels and provides a temporary respite from the challenges and pressures of everyday life. A good introduction needs to get the audience’s attention, state the topic, make the topic relatable, establish credibility, and preview the main points.
