Pointers for Review PR2 Duration: Week 1-8 The Facts about Research  It is the search for knowledge or any systematic investigation to establish facts.  It is an active, diligent, and systematic process of inquiry aimed at discovering, interpreting and revising facts.  It describe a collection of information about a particular subject, and is usually associated with science and the scientific method  It is a process that‘s followed by a person to answer either his/her own queries or somebody else queries about a particular object, person, subject etc. Definition of Quantitative Research  Quantitative Research is an objective, systematic, empirical investigation of observable phenomena through the use of computational skills.  Quantitative research makes you focus your mind on specific things using statistics.  Quantitative research uses numbers and figures to denote a particular thing.  Doing a quantitative research tends to exclude your thoughts and feelings about the subject or object of the study. Quantitative Research  People inclined to doing a quantitative research wants to discover truth in an Exact Manner  A quantitative research presents research findings in this manner; Out of 100 college students, 90 find textbooks beneficial to their studies. What should a researcher do when he cites an author within the text of the paper? Use the author, date citation method Quantitative Research In validating, the data gathered it is important for the researcher to maintain Confidentiality of the results of the interview or focus group discussion. These are examples of a correct in-text citation using APA format (Verbo, 2016), (Magnaye,2024), etc… The truth when doing a systematic review or a methodological review of related literature and studies “it is a question-driven methodology and uses deductive style” Quantitative Research This statement does NOT describe the Importance of Quantitative Research Quantitative research is useful in obtaining a subjective understanding of people, things, places, and events in this world. Quantitative Research The appropriate referencing format for education and social science research is the American Psychological Association (APA) This is NOT an ethical guideline for conducting research with humans Telling participants they are free to withdraw at any time Quantitative Research Read and analyze In a certain study, a group of students was subjected to aroma therapy using essential oils while reading, and another group read under normal conditions, then after a month both groups took a reading comprehension test (Faltado, et.al, 2016).  In this case, the reading comprehension test score is the Dependent Variable  On the other hand, exposure to aroma therapy is the Independent Variable  What kind of Quantitative Research does the author used in the study? Descriptive Research Quantitative Research Read and analyze  In Quantitative Research statistical analysis is heavily focused on making a final report. Example: The CCSIS SHS introduced a new enrollment system and wishes to study the efficiency of its implementation as compared to the previous enrollment system which is being practiced in other schools. In this study, it is not feasible to conduct randomization. Thus, what type of research design is used? Quasi- Experiment Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. Ms. Flor conducts a study that will further get to know the level of bullying cases between the male and female SHS students in CCSIS. What’s the type of research design to be used in his study? Correlational Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. Mr. Key wanted to conduct research that will delve into knowing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on the academic performance of teenagers during the first grading academic year 2024- 2025. The type of research design most suited towards her study would be a causal-comparative Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. Mr. Saliksik randomly grouped the SHS STEM students into two groups and tested the effects of the Science Intervention Materials (SIM) on their academic performances. His study uses an experimental type of research design; Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. Mr. researcher wanted to know the relationship between the level of anxiety experienced during examinations and the exam performance among the grade 12 students of CCSIS. Hence, the correlational type of research design can be utilized in this study. Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. This is another type of quantitative research design wherein the researcher wanted to know about the cause and effect relationship between variables, where the cause is being manipulated and respondents are chosen by choice not by chance.” Quasi-Experimental” Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. This is another type of quantitative research design wherein the researcher wanted to know about the cause and effect relationship between variables, where the cause is being manipulated and respondents are chosen by choice not by chance.” Quasi-Experimental” Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. In an event that the researcher wanted to know more about the cause and effect relationship however the cause already exists and cannot be manipulated, the type of research design appropriate for this is the Causal-comparative. Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. The following statements below are characteristics of an effective research title EXCEPT; a. Research title is limited to 10 to 15 substantive words or descriptive terms and phrases that accurately highlight the core content of the study. b. Use abbreviations if needed. c. Research title can be in the of a question. d. Identify key variables, both independent and dependent. Quantitative Research Read and analyze This part of the research includes the area of concern, context of the problem, and information that would focus attention on the importance and validity of the problem (Rationale) is called the Background of the Study. Quantitative Research Read and analyze In this section of the research study, the researcher defines who will benefit from the findings of the study and describes how the problem will be solved. This is the “ Significance of the Study.” Quantitative Research Read and analyze The main purpose of the study is to provide information regarding metro- sexuality and how being a metrosexual affects the lifestyle of the student. The study considers the student’s personal information such as name (optional) gender, age, and section. The researchers limited the study to 80 male and female secondary education students enrolled in the second semester of the school year 2024-2025 at the University of the Philippines. Each of the respondents was given a questionnaire to answer. The students selected came from four different sections to prevent bias and get objective perceptions.  The text above explains what part of the research study? Scope and delimitation  The research title best describes the text above is “The Perception Towards Metrosexual”  The statement of the problem appropriate to the above text is” How does being a metrosexual affect the lifestyle of the student?”  What type of Quantitative research does the author used? Descriptive Quantitative Research Read and analyze What best describes a Research question?  A good research question defines the focus of your research study. Quantitative Research Read and analyze The statement, “This research will educate will educate clients in deciding on whether the industry is really fulfilling its responsibility to the community or is just showing off to promote business”, is an example of the “Significance of the Study” Quantitative Research Read and analyze “A hypothesis” is a statement to be proven or disapproved in quantitative study. Quantitative Research Read and analyze The following explains a Statement of the Problem. ❑ The statement of the problem is the focal point of any research study. ❑ A good statement of the problem is just one sentence with several paragraphs of elaboration. ❑ A good problem statement will originate from inquiry, observation, a literature review, and your preliminary data. Quantitative Research Read and analyze It is a compilation, classification, and evaluation of what other researchers have written on a particular topic. “ Literature Review” Quantitative Research Read and analyze 1. The following statements below are the purpose of the literature review ; Describe the relationship of each work to the others without consideration. Place each work in the context of its contribution to the subject under review. Identify ways to interpret, and shed light on any gaps in, previous research. Quantitative Research Read and analyze It is an analytical tool with several variations and contexts, a blueprint that provides an outline of how you plan to conduct the research study. “Conceptual framework”  Quantitative Research Read and analyze Conceptual framework is primarily a conception or model of what is out there that you plan.  Quantitative Research Read and analyze The following statement described a hypothesis ; ❑ A hypothesis is an educated prediction that can be tested. ❑ A hypothesis is used in an experiment to define the relationship between two variables. ❑ A hypothesis will force the researcher to think about what results he should look for in an experiment. Quantitative Research Read and analyze The following statement described a hypothesis ; ❑ A hypothesis is an educated prediction that can be tested. ❑ A hypothesis is used in an experiment to define the relationship between two variables. ❑ A hypothesis will force the researcher to think about what results he should look for in an experiment. The Characteristics of Quantitative Research  It is objective  It has a clearly defined questions  It has structured research instruments  It has numerical data  It has a large samples  It can be replicated  It predicts the future outcomes The Strength of Quantitative Research  1. Quantitative research design is the most reliable and valid way of concluding results, giving way to a new hypothesis or to disproving it.  2. Because of a bigger number of the sample of a population, the results or generalizations are more reliable and valid. The Strength of Quantitative Research  3. Quantitative experiments filter out external factors, if properly designed, and so the results gained can be seen, as real and unbiased. Quantitative experiments are useful for testing the results gained by a series of qualitative experiments, leading to a final answer, and a narrowing down of possible directions to follow. (https://explorable.com/quantitative research-design) The Weakness of Quantitative Research  1. Quantitative research can be costly, difficult and time-consuming- difficult because most researchers are non- mathematicians.  2. Quantitative studies require extensive statistical treatment, requiring stringent standards, more so with confirmation of results. When ambiguities in some findings surface, retesting and refinement of the design call for another investment in time and resources to polish the results. The Weakness of Quantitative Research  3. Quantitative methods also tend to turn out only proved or unproven results, leaving little room for uncertainty, or grey areas. For the social sciences, education, anthropology and psychology, human nature is a lot more complex than just a simple yes or no response.(https://explorable.com/qu antitative-research-design.) The Kinds of Quantitative Research  There are 4 basic kinds of quantitative research:  descriptive  correlational  quasi-experimental  experimental  Descriptive research is when the researcher observes a phenomenon and collects data on it. The point of the research is to describe the phenomenon. The researcher does not start out with a hypothesis in this type of research.  Correlational research is when the researcher looks at the relationship between variables but does not control the variables. Data collection is mostly just observation. Statistics are used to find relationships between the variables.  Quasi-Experimental research is when a researcher is looking for a cause and effect relationships between variables. The researcher has a group that is exposed to the variable and another group that is not exposed to the variable. Then the results are compared.  Experimental research is when the researcher uses the scientific method to determine a cause and effect relationship between variables.  End of the Presentation Good luck to you guys on your Quarterly 1 Assessment (September 24 and 25,2024) May God bless you, and give you Wisdom !
