Physiology Organization of human body LECTURE (1) DR. El-Sawy 1 Physiology Organization of human body Physiology: Science that studies: Normal functions of organs How these functions interplay Life is maintained by coordination of the functions of various systems. Organization of the human body Human body consists of different systems e.g., digestive system. Each system consists of many organs Each organ consists of many tissues. Each tissue consists of millions of cells. Def Basic unit of structure & function in the body. Nucleus Contain Cell organelles e.g., Mitochondria and ribosomes. Plasma membrane, which allows communication Surrounded between intracellular and extracellular compartments. by Semipermeable membrane. Human Systems Organs Tissues Cells body DR. El-Sawy 3 Physiology Organization of human body System Organs Main function Brain Collects & processes information from senses via nerves Nervous Spinal cord Controls muscle actions. system Nerves Controls most of other systems. Heart Circulates blood around the body via Cardiovascular Blood vessels Deliver oxygen and nutrients to organs system (CVS) Carrying waste products away. Lungs Respiratory Trachea Carries oxygen & removes carbon dioxide from the body system Larynx Lymph nodes Lymphatic Defends the body against disease-causing agents. system Lymph vessels Musculo- Muscles Muscles Enables body to move. skeletal Bone Bones support the body and its organs. system Mouth, esophagus, stomach. Digestive Digestive & absorptive processes that provide nutrients system Small and large intestine DR. El-Sawy 4 Physiology Organization of human body Pituitary gland Thyroid gland Provides chemical communications within the body using Endocrine system Pancreas hormones Adrenal gland Kidney Urinary system Urinary bladder and ureter. Kidneys filter blood and remove wastes Testes Reproductive Sex organs required for production of offspring system Ovary Immune system White blood cells Body defense against infections DR.
