Intrinsic Semiconductors ✓ Concept of electron-hole conduction ✓ Inborn/ basic/ natural/ pure/ without any impurity ✓ Eg: Pure Si ✓ Pure Ge Current in S.C is due to: ✓ Thermally generated free electron ✓ Holes Extrinsic Semiconductor ✓ p type and n type based on impurity added Doping ✓ The process of adding impurities (intensionally) is called doping ✓ The impurity added is called ‘dopant’. ✓ The impure SC thus obtained is doped SC. Ways of Doping: ✓ Heating the pure SC in atmosphere of impurity atoms so that impurity atoms diffuses into the pure crystal. ✓ Bombarding the pure crystal with impurity atoms.
