**PD Coordinator** - The PD Coordinator in the school is the key person who, coordinates and keeps records of all the professional development activities within the school, under the guidance of the principal. - The PD Coordinator is an academic staff, appointed by the principal with the responsibility of coordinating PD activities. - It is essential for the PD Coordinator to have certain personal qualities in order to perform the task of PD coordination within a school. **Personal Qualities** - **Be well organised:** Organise meetings with regard to proper timings. Send out notices, track the progress of tasks and manage the budget. - **Be a good leader:** Pro‐actively analyse the training needs of the school and find ways of addressing these needs. - **Be passionate: ** Have a positive attitude towards lifelong learning. - **Be an effective trainer:** Apply adult learning theory to practice. Deepen content expertise, understanding and instructional practice, facilitate analysis of assessment data to inform instruction and set realistic timeline/goals. - **Be a team builder as well as a player:** Bo diplomatic, understanding and cooporative when planning for programs. Always consult others and be empathetic but use democracy when making decisions. - **Be a good Communicator: ** Practice good communication skills. **Roles and Responsibilities of the PD Coordinator** The key role of the PD Coordinator is to work under the guidance of the school Principal to ensure the effective implementation of the SBPD policy, to raise standards and improve student learning outcomes. **The specific roles and responsibilities include** - **Promoting SBPD as a central element of school improvement by:** - Making PD as a central element of school improvement plan and ensuring that PD is integrated to the school improvement cycle. - Identifying the school's PD needs, using existing processes such as performance management; school self‐evaluation; school and national priorities; internal and external monitoring and feedback evidence; evidence from teacher reflection; informal and formal discussions with individuals and teams. - Leading the use of the Professional Standards of Teachers to evaluate performance and support professional development. - **Creating and sustaining arrangements for the professional development of all professional staff by:** - Developing and supporting an effective and sustainable arrangement for conducting PD activities in the school - Ensure that all members of the school community have an opportunity through Performance Management to discuss their development needs and aspirations, as well as the most effective forms of delivery. - Ensuring that all the professional staff in the school community has access to a range of professional development activities. - **Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of the PD activities conducted in the school by:** - Organise implementing and administering evaluation procedures that monitor participation and evaluate the quality and impact. - Ensuring that every PD activity conducted in the school is fit for purpose - Maintaining and up to date record of all PD activities conducted in the school. - Reporting the impact and effectiveness to the school principal as prescribed by the principal him/herself - Sending the SBPD annual/termly reports to NIE/TRC as directed. - **Creating and promoting a culture** **of professional learning within the school by:** - Leading the whole school community in such a way that every member in the community has an entitlement and duty to engage in PD activities, which are effective and relevant to school improvement, individual professional development, career progression and aspirations. - Creating a system whereby all professional staff are able to benefit from the collation and dissemination of good and successful practice, both within and beyond the school, for the purpose of improving student learning outcomes.
