Faculty of Administrative Sciences Organization Theory and Design MGT 321 Lovel : 4 – Logistics Dr. Amr M. Samy Fall 2024 An over View What are organizations? An organization is a social unit that aims to achieve specific goals throughout specific activities within predetermined framework limits. Consequently, four elements should exist in an organization: (i) Human resource has to exist as organizations are not just buildings, machines and equipment only but they are also in need for the interaction among humans to perform the basic functions that deem necessary for the continuity of the organization. (ii) An organization should work for the achievement of defined targets as they are the only reason for its establishment and continuity. (iii)Achieving targets should be through activities that are specifically designed for those targets. There will be separate organizational units. Every unit is responsible for achieving part of the main organizational target. There will also exist a leading management that controls and unifies the activities of all units to integrate producing the main target of the organization. (iv) An organization never works separate from the external, environment. Therefore, the variables of such environment resemble the major source that defines the legal frame for the organization. Why studying organizations? (*) Organizations in the society satisfy human needs. Therefore, it deems necessary to study those organizations as they effectively affect that satisfaction. (*) Studying organizations efficiently helps its workers, especially managers to understand the organization’s problems and then determine the proper solutions solve such problems. (*) Studying organizations helps understanding human behavior which is the most important component of an organization. It also aids to developing the most appropriate means to deal with various types of individual workers.
